From the North
Drive south from Stuttgart on the A81. The A81 turns into the B33 and leads you to Konstanz. In Konstanz, take the first roundabout turn right towards Mainau. Take the first exit in the circle. Then you are already in the Reichenaustr.
From the southeast (Bayern), from Austria
Take the A96 towards Lindau. You can then either go to the northern shore of Lake Constance to Meersburg and from there take the ferry to Konstanz or Bregenz (A) and St. Margareten (CH) follow the southern shore of Lake Constance to Kreuzlingen / Konstanz.
There you go either through the old town on the old Rhine bridge and follow the signs towards Singen. You then go automatically into the Reichenaustraße. Or you can drive over the new bridge over the Rhine, the four-lane "highway bridge" and then turn right on that bridge and you are also at the roundabout. Take the third exit, which takes you past a petrol station towards the old town. This road is the Reichenaustraße. You drive past the MediaMarkt, pass a roundabout and then come to a traffic light. At this signal go for 50m straight ahead and then turn among the trees on the right.
From Switzerland
Take the motorway over-inch in Kreuzlingen / Konstanz, follow the road up to the bridge over the Rhine, where you take the right lane. Turn right, go to the circle and take the third exit, which takes you past a petrol station towards the old town. This road is the Reichenaustraße. You drive past the MediaMarkt, pass a roundabout and then come to a traffic light. At this signal go for 50m straight ahead and then turn among the trees on the right.
By the way: to come by car, does not mean that you have to drive yourself. How about BlaBlaCar?
The German and Swiss railway station Konstanz is located at the same place, i.e., no matter from which point of the compass and from which country you come from, you always arrive in Bahnhof Konstanz. If you want to go by bus to the institute, you can take almost any line to Sternplatz, then we are only a few metres down the Rhine.
Konstanz is ideally connected to the Zurich Airport. Once an hour there is a continuous Intercity from the airport directly to Konstanz. There is a second connection in which you have to change once in Weinfelden. The arrival by plane is advisable especially for people from Northern Germany (Hamburg, Berlin), or even from the area of Cologne / Ruhr area and from Austria. There are inexpensive carriers, for example, Swiss, Lufthansa and Air Berlin.
Since the liberalisation of long-distance bus services to / from Konstanz from/to Freiburg, Munich and other cities are increasingly available, there are good options such as MeinFernbus and DeinBus.
Sometimes you can find various connections between places in GoEuro and Busliniensuche.
